The Overwatch Patrol – Hunting Newcomers

I probably shouldn’t be alone. Not this far from support. But this was it. This is where they come from. The bridge. It gets horribly lonely out here, and I go through bullets quickly. Something about this area attracts them. Zombies, creepers. I have a fear of raiders, but I am prepared as I can be. Otherwise it’s terribly boring. I should have brought a book. Terry Brooks. I love his work.

I am creating an incidental patrol. Some newcomers may have gone through without going to the hospital for a checkup exam, and introduction to the shelter, and the basic supplies we can offer there. So I go, I cover all the roads. It’s a long walk, and possibly  as dangerous as waiting at the bridge. Sometimes I check shops. I feel like a beat cop, but I’m not. I’m hunting newcomers.

I found an old motorbike and stashed it deep in the fringe. It’s going to take some work, but I’d rather patrol on a bike. It’s faster, and with the frequency of the dead appearing at the bridge, it’s much quicker to get a newcomer to the hospital, or at least away from danger.

I helped a newcomer get in today. She arrived by raft, a rather torn up raft. She was soaked. She was a mess, and fearful. I did my best to calm her, get her to the hospital, and through an entry exam by Dr. Ai. I can only hope she calms down as she familiarizes herself with places, people and things. I know I won’t be able to help everyone that crosses that bridge, but today was a good day.
