Over the last few weeks, the issue of child characters have popped up. I wanted to take this issue to the forum to get your feedback and ideas on how we should treat this issue.

My 2 cents (not final say):

We started the sim and opted to avoid allowing child avatars due to the potentially gruesome nature of the story. However, we’ve evolved the role-play settings since then and I don’t see the particular harm in allowing teenage characters.

Zombie fiction is rife with young characters and I don’t see any reason why we can’t be at this point. I personally don’t like introducing rules or inhibiting creativity - rules like “no children” are usually positioned to maintain the ambiance of the sim. I think we can allow youth characters without detracting from the quality of role-play, especially if we discuss and come up with some guidance (ie. minimum age, no-brainer limits like no sexual or gross violence). We also have mentors and moderators who should be around to address issues - I don’t like to simply assume that all new players are likely going to mess it up. If it becomes a growing trend, we can address it.
