OVERVIEW

MISSION STATEMENT Arklay Emergency Services should provide timely, efficient and ‘state of the art’ medical to support to all denizens of Arklay -- although we fully recognize that ‘state of the art’ in this setting may have required certain….modifications since the Outbreak, perhaps “sufficiently MacGuyver’ed to the best of our ability”? Additionally, AES should use it’s medical and scientific expertise to benefit the community of Arklay by offering preventative medical care when feasible and using our combined medical expertise to advance our understanding of the Outbreak virus.

FUTURE DIRECTIONS MEDICAL SUPPORT Injuries happen. Whether maliciously caused by another player, or a run in with a zombie, Arklay can be a dangerous place. It is the primary function of AES to provide emergency medical to support to denizens of Arklay. We actively plan to continue this service, with improvements outlined below.

ROUTINE HEALTH CARE (see regular events section) While AES functions to provide EMERGENCY medical service, not every illness, cut, and sprain needs to be a dramatic ordeal. It is our vision that AES should act as a resource and as medical providers for all health concerns for citizens of Arklay. See further elaboration below.

PARAMEDIC PATROLS Arklay is a big place, and not everyone is in a condition to get to the hospital on their own after they’ve been injured. We plan to train medics to patrol certain routes of Arklay for persons in need of help and perform first aid and assist with transport of the patient to the AES for further treatment.

RESEARCH As medical professionals, the staff of AES is uniquely gifted to provide insight into a variety of disease processes that affect the human body -- including the Outbreak virus. Although we do not know much about this disease that has turned our world upside-down, the hospital at AES provides unique resources and opportunities to further our knowledge. We fully feel that it is the responsibility of AES to step forward and provide our combined medical knowledge for the public benefit, in the hopes that increases in our understanding of the virus will provide for more comprehensive therapies in managing the infected. Ultimately we hope this will serve as a massive driving force for plot development, from testing for carriers of the virus, to capturing the infected to study the source, to roleplay interactions with those that have been bitten.

TEMPORARY HOUSING FOR NEW RESIDENTS Permanent units at the Eights are limited, and safe, secure housing elsewhere is hard to come by. Numerous bunks are available within the hospital for short-term to medium-term stays. The hospital itself serves as a natural starting point for new members to gravitate too and could serve as a safe haven those awaiting housing elsewhere. Bunk space could be exchanged for goods traded and services rendered to AES, until more permanent housing is available elsewhere.

PROPOSED REGULAR EVENTS VIRUS TESTING CLINICS With the proposed advent of a carrier status, AES is in a unique position to provide medical support for the viral titer-positive members within the community. Semi-monthly, AES will provide routine testing services to assess the viral status of its citizens, particularly those with a known exposure status. AES will also provide counseling and educational services to the newly infected carriers.

PUBLIC HEALTH CLINIC DAYS An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Semi-monthly, AES will offer a public clinic offering free preventative medical care to all who will attend. Physical examinations, routine vaccination when supplies are on hand, and other medical consultations.

EXPERIENCE:Since I joined Outbreak in March, I have been one of the most active doctors in the AES. My real life experience in nursing gives me the foundation needed to roleplay high-stress medical situations in a realistic way, and mentor other AES workers who may not have the real-world background to portray treatments accurately on their own. I have experience managing groups and roleplay communities and currently head an organization within a large online gaming community/forum (~1000+ members) where I manage a staff of 10-15 people and a membership of over 200. Furthermore, my proposed co-lead, Ollie, possesses real-world professional experience in both medical care and biomedical research settings and can offer insight on both standard operating medical procedure and scientific support for plots involving the virus. Ollie also possesses extensive roleplay experience, has managed a large online community (~1000+ members, as mentioned above) in the past and has been a member of SecondLife since 2008.
