Nadir TaovsaidIt’s no secret that a bunch of us are huge survival and zombie fans … and with the upcoming premier of TWD, I figured it was time to take to take survival RP in SL to the next level. Here’s a summary of what’s available now in Outbreak: SicknessBetter think twice before carving out a possum or feasting on cat food! Wild meat and unsavory foods will take a toll on your stomach and well-being. When you become sick, a health alert icon will display over your wellness icon indicating that your character has contracted an illness. To learn about your symptoms and what you have, click on the icon. Depending on how severe your sickness, you may have to take one or two doses of antibiotics which are now available through role-playing with the hospital staff. I will be releasing this as a supply commodity for groups assigned to the Drugs commodity. Story LengthThere are a lot of features in Outbreak that impact your character’s ability to grow and strengthen various traits that impact scavenging, combat, time to recover, etc. Without overwhelming players with numerous stats, I really wanted to emphasize that players who are active on sim, participate, and even choose to extend their stories by writing journals, I pull it all together to show a single page count. The higher the page count, the more resilient to the Infected and wilderness conditions. Rest at HomeThere are numerous ways to rest and recover health over a period of time, including playing in the hospital or within a business. Now, players who rent a home or land on sim will have the ability to teleport home and recover a significant portion (dependent on prims allotted). My hope with this feature is we can encourage players to dig into the sim by supporting and spending more time. I’ve gone through each rental and increased prim allowances across the board. All players who rent can also set their SL home (CTRL+H) and a premium membership is not even required. Affiliations &TradeIn a world where scavenging and commodities is crucial for survival, I wanted to reinforce the idea of banding into businesses or factions, as well as “earning your keep” by working and transacting with other players. This button lights up when players join a group (show up on a roster). This is particularly helpful to new players who are curious with next steps. Better Integration of GuidesThrought the HUD, I’ve incorporated buttons in the dialog menus to point players to useful information. I think this is key to help people understand the various aspects of community and feature set. Immersive WeatherThe weather appearing on the HUD, visual effects in-game, and the widget on the website are now all in sync. Clicking on the weather icon will display the current temperature and what your character may experience. I'm looking to expand this a bit more with recommendations on what to wear, but it's a good start in incorporating such a huge aspect of the wilderness / survival story. Next Steps …We Need LeadersFactions and businesses are each assigned a commodity type to traffic. If you’ve got a cool idea and a few people ready to start with you, submit a proposal for a faction and I’ve asked the admins to fast track them through. If you wanna go solo or have an idea for a service or business, consider renting a shop with us. Upon accepting and getting setup, leaders will get enough cash to purchase their a few crates of goods to start RP’ing and trafficking them through the sim. Settle into ArklayConsider renting a home or a piece of land to support the sim! I’ve increased the number of prim allowances across the board to rentals that are generally vacant. If you’re interested in more space, please contact me about the limited number of parcels in Fever. I’m happy to offer special pricing to players get Fever filled up and a community growing. Land and businesses are primarily setup to encourage players to come up with their own ideas and keeping Outbreak “fresh”. Need FeedbackI’m going to start a few threads to start getting feedback on certain aspects of Outbreak, including getting ideas on what other illnesses, official businesses, we can have and features that would help new players get involved. There are a number of vacant buildings that I’ll be furnishing depending on what ideas you guys pull together (and volunteers who want to run it). Feel free to write here or hit me up in world. Thanks!
