OMG... You are NOT going to die!

Okay, seems like a few folks could benefit from this post, so I thought about it today at work.. I mean during breaks, ‘cause I ain’t no slacker… but I think that some of us either forget that there is no HUD death, or never knew it in the first place.

That’s right… you cannot die. Relax.

Your food and water can go down, your HUD can tell you that you are sick, hell, someone can empty a whole crate of ammo on you and your HUD will not kill your character. Because we are a roleplay sim we are gonna leave the dying thing completely up to you.

In fact, we are leaving a whole lotta shit up to you.

That said, I’ll go ahead and add that we have no way of knowing who is wearing the HUD and who isn’t … Nadir might, I have no clue, but the rest of staff and other players don’t know if you wear it or not.

So why wear it at all then?

The HUD is meant to be an RP enhancer. It’s meant to help you experience The Outbreak and immerse yourself in the environment. Kinda like one of those pregnant “tummy talkers” that tell you when your avatar is tired or hungry or someone bumps into you in a packed, laggy, sale-event sim or whatever, but better. It gives you cues that you can certainly incorporate into your RP, like eating and drinking, smoking a joint, injuries, and sickness. The HUD will even remind you what the weather is like to help you pick out what to wear!

And if you are going to wear it, RP that.. Because honestly people munching on steak mid RP when they aren’t rp’ing eating, or running around in a bikini when it's 50 degrees outside kinda gives me hives.

Another thing with the HUD, yes you can scavenge, hunt, get paid, etc etc. But I see a lot of people hoarding cash and items. People hunting like there’s entire herds of Buffalo roaming on the Fever Sim. So here’s the thing about that?

You can’t possibly win. There is no winning. And no one cares that you have 349 pieces of venison in your inventory.

Well they care, because in doing this people completely defeat the purpose of roleplaying survival. It also drives down the value of things and messes up the sim’s economy (simple rule of supply and demand). Now we see people avoiding eating hunted meat for fear of getting HUD sick. I find that kinda metagamish! I mean, seriously, there’s a chance of getting sick, and a chance you won’t. If you are THAT hungry, you’d take the chance. And why not? It’s RP and… OMG, you are not going to die. So what if you get sick? Isn’t that part of it?

Aaaand… there’s also NO WAY any character is hauling around that much meat or cans of corn and artichokes or water bottles.

Fade into darkness, as shadows always do when their light goes away.
