It took a while for Ellinor to dry out, even after the short walk from her job to where she was staying. The rain was that heavy that she was soaked to through and through. She had stripped naked and even put on dry clothes, but spent a good amount of time wringing out the crappy ‘winter’ jacket she had got at the ATC. As if that wasn’t bad enough, she was freezing and her left eye was throbbing with pain. She waited a while for Chloe to show up, managing to salvage a half cigarette from her drenched cigarette case. A few curses later, she pulled up some paper and started to scratch with a small piece of broken pencil.
“Bae,
Got to keep this short. I got some information about the hospital and shelter. Might be worth casing out. I’m fine, freezing my tits off, but fine. I crashed at the ATC last night; They have a really good wood burner and some tarps. This morning I was given a bit of gear for our place. You get anything from the garage? If I’m not here, I went out to the garage. If I don’t see you by tomorrow night, I’ll be looking for you. The weather seems to only be getting worse. We should maybe move to higher ground and bar up. I managed to get some boards to help barricade, but I don’t know what good that is going to do if water starts to rise or waves start to hit. Fuck, wishing you were walking through the door right now. Maybe I should have come to work at the bar with you. Least we would know where each other is. Stay safe.
E.Lin.”
After a moment of staring at the paper she sighs and looks up at the window of the room. The candle just barely giving enough light in the darkness.. Part of her hoped that just laying down to rest would make time fly by. Sleep it all away. She rubbed her left temple then giving in, reached into her bag and pulled out a small orange bottle with a white cap. Two pills left… She snapped one in half and closed the bottle, replacing it back in her bag safe and sound before looking at the half pill in the palm of her hand. She took a deep breath and popped it back. After it swallowed down she leaned back on the bed.. both eyes open.
Swirls of colors and blurry water stains.. water stains.. Shit.. that means the water is leaking through the top floor into their room. Sure enough the pat of water on carpet was heard just barely over the howling winds and violent splash of rain against the building. “Stay at the bar.. stay safe.. I don’t know if this place is going to hold out.. God damn Chloe.. We might have done ourselves in with this island.” she said aloud. Yet, some how in all the chaos, Ellinor felt calm and safe. Quickly drifting off to sleep as if she were in a five star hotel.
