So the rain system is gorgeous and came through amazing on video and everything, but I've been hearing a lot of folks mentioning the lag. Some have even gone so far as to stay off sim and not role play if it's raining, simply because they can't.
When you have to click so many things, having multiple layers of solid mesh that overlap and intersect every few inches means you have to cam BETWEEN them to click your target. (Requiring you to turn on 'Show Transparent Textures' or spend some time guessing.)
Now this might not sound like a huge problem, but for somebody who isn't necessarily a ninja with Second Life's camera controls, it can be a headache, especially if you're lagging. And what do you have to click? Really? Everything... Doors.. Loot containers.. your gun, to draw it... vendors, to buy food, or water, or anything..
WORSE than clicking is trying to REZ something... The item instantly hits the rain's mesh prims and a message is given. "The owner of this land does not allow objects to be blah blah blah..."
Now what that's really saying is, "EVEN THOUGH objects are allowed here, you just rezzed on a mesh prim. That's a no-no, and if your item was NO COPY like any of the COMMODITIES in the sim, it VANISHES. The only fix to get it back is a relog and a search into your Lost and Found folder. Problem.
So many layers of animated textures can bog down a computer, and while it may have some significant perks over particle systems, there's no way to AVOID this rain. With particles you can at least adjust them in your settings client-side based on your computer's specs.
I know particles have a nasty habit of falling through prims and into buildings and basements and it's terrible, so maybe there's some kinda fix or in-between?
